Recently I attended my friend Scott’s Photowalk meet-up at Eastern State Penitentiary in Philadelphia. A great crowd of photographers assembled to hang out, walk around and take some cool pictures of this amazing location. For those that have not been there, E.S.P is a prison constructed in the late 19th century, operating through the 1970’s. At that point the prison fell into a state of abandonment. However, its doors have since been opened, and it seems that every time I go back more has been opened up to the public to see and learn about. Although they are restoring parts to make it safer and more accessible for people to wanted around, ESP remains in semi-ruin, preserving the great character and feel that only time can build. Eastern state has been the location for such movies as Transformers 2, 12 Monkeys and others. If you can make it there, check it out! It has something for photographers, historians and just people who like old looking stuff. I shot using a Canon 5d, and either a 24-70mm or a 100-400m Canon Lens.
